CBDa vs COVID-19

New study suggests that some of hemp's compounds, such as CBDa, play a role in the battle against Covid-19

A very exciting study was just released from Oregon State University that suggests hemp compounds may help prevent and treat the infection from the virus that causes Covid-19.

*Disclaimer* While this news is very exciting for the hemp community, it does not mean our products treat, cure, or prevent COVID-19.

So what did the study share?

Cannabis may help Covid-19 Infection and Recovery

Findings shared below and all quotes are from Forbes.

As reported by Forbes, Richard van Breeman at OSU found that "compounds in cannabis can prevent infection from the virus that causes Covid-19 by blocking its entry into cells."

In particular, they found that hemp's cannabinoid acids bind to SARS-CoV-2. The compounds that showed most promise are CBGA and CBDA.

"Researchers found that cannabinoid acids commonly found in hemp varietals of cannabis... CBGA and CBDA... can bind to the spike protein of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19. By binding to the spike protein, the compounds can prevent the virus from entering cells and causing infection, potentially offering new avenues to prevent and treat the disease."

They went on to discuss how cannabinoids protect against variants as well:

"Van Breeman added that CBDA and CBGA blocked the action of emerging variants of the virus that causes Covid-19."

More on the study:

While this was an in-vitro study (meaning this was not performed on humans or animals) it's a very exciting step in better understanding the potential hemp compounds have in impacting infection by SARS-CoV-2.
